I planned to meet with my friend Sarah, we went for food, a few drinks & a good catch up (like we always do before a gig!) at Font Bar in Manchester. The cocktails we had were so nice! Sarahs favourite was the 'Birthday Martini' which had hundreds and thousands stuck around the edge of the cocktail glass, so cute! My favourite was the 'Solero' cocktail, based on an icelolly that I love.
When we had finished in Font we walked down to the Manchester Academys (which always brings back memories of the weekends I'd spend in town & at gigs... love it). When we got their we found out that the gig had been moved from Academy 2 to Academy 3... that basically means the venue was much smaller which I was SO happy about. We got in the queue but then decided we would go sit in the student union bar until the queue had gone down.
When we got into the student union I noticed a guy sat at a table on his own who I immediately recognised... Pat Kirch the drummer of The Maine! By the time we had got our drinks he had took his food and left the bar.
The Maine were due to come on stage around half 9 so myself and Sarah got into the room for around quarter to 9, we saw their support act Lydia who were pretty good. At around twenty past 9, earlier than expected, The Maine came on stage & if I could remember the song they started with I would definitely write that here... Anyway, the gig was amazing and I really enjoyed it, I say this a lot but The Maine are definitely one of my favourite bands. I have even listened to all the newer songs which other Maine fans will be glad to know. If you haven't ever listened to them I seriously suggest you give them a chance, their music is great. John O'Callaghan is one of the greatest front men of a band I have ever really seen, the way he talks with the audience is good & giving out his advice like "Television turns your brain to mush" & his advice on life "Be Cool... Just be fucking Cool"
Overall this gig was very enjoyable & I hope Sarah enjoyed it too even though we were both so tired by the end of the night!
